In England we have many forms of the ploughman's lunch.
And depending what part of England your are! results in many interesting forms.
Also local produce make a special Ploughman's lunch.
To make the ploughman's you must have the following:
Vegetarian:
3 Cheeses :
Red Lester, Stilton, Mature cheese all triangle cut shapes.
Stone ground Bread wedge, about 3 trimmed Celery sticks,
half an Apple (Crisp slightly sour) Brush inside apple with lemon juice to prevent apple discolouration. Some local Home made tomato chutney( maybe spiced fruit chutney)
Oh maybe some hand cooked Crisps on the side.
You know have a perfect vegetarian ploughman's lunch.
meat ploughman's:
3 meats : Honey Roast Ham, Silver side beef, Turkey or Chicken sliced.
Roll the generous slices leaving the sides of the meat tucked under the roll.
You may add a slice of quiche onto the plate and some Rocket leaves! as i believe Rocket goes best with meats! and a grinding of Cracked peppercorns. and maybe a drizzle of olive oil.
we must add celery or something Crunchy and healthy to the plate.
As you are having meats! Mustard pickle is great with ham and beef, Some people may like some green tomato chutney with it. That's difficult to get! unless you make it yourself.
Half an apple and a granary bread wedges also need adding to the plate.
I am planning on trying ploughman's lunches at different pubs in UK to see how they are and give them a rate in value, style and passion. And this blog with be where you will be kept informed.
maybe i might start a ploughman's lunch twitter.
If anybody wants to help me i will be very grateful.
please get in touch.
